Polypropylene FIBERS

What are Polypropylene Fibers?

Polypropylene (PP) fibers are high-performance synthetic fibers manufactured from polypropylene resin by special extrusion processes. They come in the form of monofilament or macro fibers, and their main function is to reinforce concrete and mortar, improving their mechanical properties, crack resistance and long-term performance. Thanks to their chemical resistance, durability, light weight and ease of application, these fibers have become a modern and effective alternative to traditional metallic fibers.

POLYPROPYLENE FIBERS: MULTIFUNCTIONAL REINFORCEMENT FOR CONCRETE AND MORTAR

Polypropylene fibers are an essential admixture in the formulation of high performance concrete. Their presence within the mix acts as a three-dimensional reinforcement that effectively controls internal micro-cracks and improves the structural integrity of concrete elements. Thanks to their resistance to acidic and alkaline media, their compatibility with cementitious systems and their ease of mixing, these fibers ensure homogeneous distribution without generating adverse reactions or damaging equipment.

Their ability to increase resistance to impact, bending, wear, freeze-thaw cycles, as well as durability against aggressive environments, has made polypropylene fibers an indispensable component for structures subjected to repetitive stresses, heavy loads or harsh environments. In addition, their application contributes to the sustainability of construction sites by reducing the need for maintenance and extending the service life of structures.

Polypropylene Fiber Advantages

  • Effective three-dimensional reinforcement that reduces the formation of micro-cracks.

  • Significantly improved impact, abrasion and fatigue resistance.

  • Excellent resistance to acidic and alkaline environments and exposure to external agents.

  • Increased impermeability, durability and useful life of concrete.

  • Increases resistance to freeze-thaw cycles.

  • Provides greater cohesion and uniformity to the mixture.

  • It does not alter workability and does not require changes in the mixing procedure.

Polypropylene Fiber Applications
USE IN A WIDE VARIETY OF CONSTRUCTION APPLICATIONS

🏢 Construction of waterproof and durable structures: basements, retaining walls, roofs, swimming pools, structural slabs and foundations with high waterproofing requirements.

🏗️ Road infrastructure and bridges: Pavements, bridge decks, abutments and structures subjected to constant impact and abrasion.

💪 Defense works and fire resistant projects: Military structures, oil platforms, chimneys and elements subjected to high temperatures.

🌊 Hydraulic and marine works: Tunnels, dams, canals, ports and structures exposed to acidic or saline environments.

🏠 Housing and prefabricated: Walls, pavements, architectural elements, panels and prefabricated components resistant to cracking.

🚧 Special applications: coating mortars, thermal mortars, shotcrete, very slender elements or areas with high structural requirements.

Method of Use and Dosage

To ensure correct application and maximum performance, it is recommended to follow these guidelines:

Recommended Dosage
    • Standard mortar: 0.9 – 1.2 kg/m³
    • Structural concrete: 0.6 – 1.8 kg/m³
    • Thermal insulating mortar: 1 – 3 kg/tonne
Presentation and Packaging
  • 1 kg per individual package
  • 25 kg per bag
  • Customized packaging according to customer requirements
Mixing Procedure

1️⃣ Measure accurately the amount of fiber according to the volume of the mixture.

2️⃣ Add the fibers to the dry aggregates and mix in forced blender for 30 seconds.

3️⃣ Add the water and continue mixing for another 30 seconds.

4️⃣ Verify that the fibers are completely dispersed. If clumps remain, prolong mixing for 20-30 seconds.

5️⃣ Apply the concrete in the conventional way and follow the usual curing procedure.
